Hot Stamping Film

Hot stamping is a lithography printing procedure that utilizes stamping dies or heated image molds to transfer pre-dried inks or metal foils onto a surface.

The hot stamping process utilizes PET films as a base and adds three layers:

1: A color layer which can be metallic or pigment

2: An adherence layer

3: A release layer

Hot stamping is a precise, versatile and efficient process for printing on surfaces. It is often used to decorate or personalize products.

During the hot stamping process, foil is dispensed over the substrate against a counter plate. A chase mounted with a custom dies stamps down promptly with specific heat and pressure applied. It allows the defined area to stick to the paper while the surplus foil is peeled away. This activity leaves a luxurious and clean finish.

During the cold stamping procedure, the foil is dispensed from a roll mounted inline. Then it is laid over the substrate, which has a UV adhesive printed in the desired pattern. Foil is sealed to the sheet before exposure to a UV lamp by a pressure roller. It cures the adhesive and locks the design in a proper place.

The durability of hot stamping depends on the material (dye) used. Copper and brass offer more excellent durability. These materials require higher costs to produce. Steel dies are also expensive to make, but they also provide the best durability.

Embossed labels are usually only printed on films. It involves pressing an image through the back of label stock. As a result, the image will appear on the front of the label.

While foil stamped labels are generated by utilizing heat to transfer colorful foils to label stock, embossed labels give a more raised appearance than foil stamped labels. However, foil stamping is more versatile than embossing.
